Windows Installation

  1. Download the files from http://collison.ie/wikipedia-iphone/
  2. Extract the .zips
  3. Place the Wiki app into /Applications, set permitions to 0755
  4. Place the Folder " wp " in the Directory /var/root , the file transfer will take a long time!
  5. Set Permitions of the wiki files to 0755
  6. Place finger on icon on home screen, type in something to search for, and there you go...you just installed wikipedia on your ipod. I bet you're happy, arent you?

Problems I encountered and their solutions:

  1. If the file extraction fails, it did for me the first time, just try to re extract it. If that fails re-download the file from http://collison.ie/wikipedia-iphone/ and just try again, thats what i had to do
  2. If the file transfer fails, its most likely due to:
    a. the ftp program, so try a different one
    b. your ipod fell asleep, or locked itself, so make sure that dosent happen, also if you have extended prefs installed, set it to never lock/fall asleep
    c. random user input, that somehow caused a fault, sorry, i cant help you there
  3. If the program crashes, its most likley due to:
    a. the folder " wp " is named wrong
    b. is uppercase, it has to be " wp " it CANT be " WP " or " Wp "
    c. or its in the wrong directory
    d. you forgot to set permitions to 0755 for the files
