Also confirmed that it works on the OS 3.0 final. One question, however: when I upgrade, will I lose the 2GB download? It seems so (since the sync did not take long after downloading, so it's probably not backed up).

If so, where are the data files stored? I could backup them via ssh, or even write an app to make the backup and put it on the app store - but I'm having a hard time isolating which file(s) comprise the download.

Hey Patrick --

I bought the app a few days ago for my new iPhone 3GS, and have been attempting to download the database for the past 3 days! Right now, it's getting a measly 32KB/sec, and that seems about typical. Is there an easier way to get this onto the iPhone? (bear in mind I haven't jailbroken it -- yet.)

Even being able to wget the database overnight on a desktop would be preferable, as that would allow me to use the device for other stuff in the meantime.

Quick update: v1.0 of Encyclopedia works like a charm on the OS v3.0 GM seed version. Performance is the same as always.

I'd love to see an updated version of the database released.

Trying to make it work despite dl it from app store - am I right in thinking then that since I am running 2.1 this app will not work?

I cannot dl the dump so have dl'd another dump from the web, and put it on the phone - but not correctly it seems. Can someone tell me how to make another dump work if indeed it is possible on 2.1?

thanks

Patrick,
This is most excellent. I will be purchasing it and going through the long download, but it really should be worth it.

I have to admit that I tried your Jailbroken version, and I personally prefer the Wiki2Touch app, primarily because it leverages Safari as the viewer (bookmarking, zooming, landscape mode, etc.--really sweet.) And Wiki2Touch does find articles very quickly, and it follows redirects well.

But that said, the cold fact is that Wiki2Touch remains a Jailbreak only solution. Now that your new app is available on AppStore, I really now have no reason to keep my iPod Touch Jailbroken.

Anyway, I look forward to putting this through its paces and posting a review on my http://iPTTips.com site (a section on my http://JimsTips.com site.) Can't wait to see any improvements you may make!!!

Patrick,
I liked the idea of this app enough to pay for it.

I'm wondering if you have any future plans for the project e.g. improving search, providing some kind of RSync functionality to pick up updates from wikipedia, etc

Kudos.

Heard about the XO port but didn't realise it was an Irishman who'd got the ball rolling.
much nicer to have a readers wikipedia without all the editing clutter normally there, that just gets in the way of reading.

Tempted to try and slap together a java version for blackberry or other phones but I half expect by now someone else has done it already.

Good luck with your Science Week lecture (which is what led me here in the first place).
